When it comes to medicine, doctors generally rely on well documented science backed research and proven courses of treatment. As the whole world was blindsided by the new strain of coronavirus, it created a panic that has been felt across the globe. Doctors and scientists began scrambling to find a cure or develop a vaccine.

At the epicenter of the outbreak in Wuhan, courageous doctors took the initiative to look to alternative medicine in an effort to decrease mortality rates any way possible. Dr. Richard Cheng and his team of experts in Shanghai’s Public Health Center were the first ones to create a protocol for high dose IV vitamin C. Their preliminary results showed reduced mortality and faster recovery (Cheng, 2020). The complete study is in the works to be published in a few months. But doctors in New York can’t wait for studies to be published. Time is of the essence and thanks to the internet information spreads as quickly as a virus.

Despite the mainstream media’s attempt to claim that there was no viable treatment for CoVID-19, Dr. Cheng took his story to Youtube where the video was shared widely. Luckily, his findings were evidence enough for New York pulmonologist  Dr. Andrew G. Weber to add IV Vitamin C into his patients care plans as well.

According to the recent New York Post article, Dr. Weber and his team have begun their own controlled study on current CoVID-19 patients. Using high doses of Vitamin C intravenously just as the Wuhan doctors did, this New York hospital is experiencing equally remarkable outcomes.

Flattening The Curve

Weber reports that patients under his care receive 1500 mg of IV Vitamin C immediately upon being diagnosed with novel coronavirus. Then 3 to 4 more times per day. Dr. Weber stated, “Patients who received Vitamin C did significantly better than those who did not get Vitamin C” (NY Post).  Furthermore, intravenous Vitamin C is an excellent option because it is very safe with no adverse effects like the questionable antimalarial drugs that are being experimented with.

The most remarkable result of this high dose vitamin C protocol has been the shortened length of stay for patients in the ICU. Doctors found that patients who were treated with 1-3 grams of Vitamin C per day got out of the ICU 8.6% quicker than those who were not given Vitamin C (Osborne, 2020). That’s a huge deal especially for our hospitals that have limited bed space already and are dealing with a lack of resources overall.  Vitamin C may very well be the unsung hero of flattening the curve so that our hospitals aren’t overwhelmed.

Dosage Matters

Headlines are sometimes all that people have time to read. So we’re getting frequent questions about what’s the best brand of Vitamin C or the best way to take Vitamin C. It’s important to notice the dosages the doctors are prescribing for CoVID-19 are extremely high compared to the recommended daily amount (RDA). For example, a typical chew-able vitamin that gives you 100% of your daily value is not enough to combat this virus. The RDA is around 90mg for an adult. Coronavirus patients are being given 5000-10,000mg a day! To do this, Intravenous (IV) Vitamin C is the obvious choice. It’s completely bio-available unlike an oral supplement. Liposomal Vitamin C is the second best choice because it is absorbed better 80% than the more common form of tablets. Before supplementation, be sure to check out the guidelines we posted below on how to best take oral Vitamin C.

We are following Dr. Cheng’s guidelines for prevention of illness here at Opus Antiaging & Wellness. We sincerely hope that you and your family are staying safe and healthy during this time. However, if you or anyone in your family tests positive, it is vital that you request IV Vitamin C in the hospital. Please share this article with you friends and family to spread the word. We need everyone to take every precaution in preventing the spread of this disease.
